eXtremely powerful compact ejectors

X-Pump from Schmalz – innovative vacuum generation
automation solutions today and in the future

J. Schmalz GmbH, the world's leading manufacturer of vacuum components, suction pads and complete vacuum systems for the rational handling of all types of products, is always good for surprising "real" vacuum innovations. The newest proof of this is provided by the company in D- 72293 Glatten in the Black Forest in the form of a new generation of compact ejectors of the type SXP (Schmalz X-Pump) for reliable and economical vacuum generation. Designed, developed and dimensioned for flexible use in all types of automation systems, the X-Pump compact ejectors can be used universally in devices, work positions, machines and handling systems in the automobile industry, in the machining of plastics and sheet metal and in loading, assembly and packing systems.

The new modular system of SXP compact ejectors is characterised by enormous suction and blow-off capacities, very small dimensions, robustness and insensitivity to dirt and environmental effects (degree of protection: IP65). The reduced number of parts ensures a higher technical availability. The ejectors also possess several additional intelligent functions. These include the "condition monitoring" feature in the form of integrated diagnosis functions and rapid detection of faults and/or leaks with direct compensation for these, resulting in increased process safety in the systems. The functions are easy to programme with the large keypad and ensure safe use of the ejectors.

The mechanical, electrical and pneumatic connections are also very simple. The electrical connections can be made via on 8-pole M12 connector or two 5-pole M12 connectors, optimally with potential isolation. There is also an optional bus interface for all common bus protocols. A special silencer, a robust open system which is unaffected by dirt and can be replaced quickly if necessary, reduces the noise output of the ejector to only 70 db(A). The above-mentioned modular design permits upgrading, if desired, with a so-called power module which further increases the blow-off performance for even shorter cycle times.

The SXP compact ejectors are equipped with the well-known and proven Schmalz automatic air-saving function which ensures very economic operation under all operating conditions. The SXP compact ejectors can be mounted in blocks of two to six ejectors to provide more power for demanding applications. The simple integration and installation save time and costs. And if an ejector should fail, it can be replaced quickly, thus reducing the system standstill times to a minimum. The SXP compact ejectors normally need no maintenance. The clearly visible diagnostic display informs the operator quickly and unambiguously of the status of the station or system at a glance.

Fig. 2 shows the display of the X-Pump, with which the ejector can be set and operated very easily. The diagnostic display integrated into the screen permits rapid and reliable indication of the system status and the detection of faults before they cause a system standstill.

Fig. 3 shows how the ejectors can be combined into blocks and how ejectors can be exchanged quickly for evaluation purposes.
