This year's annual trainee outing started at 6 am on 22.06.2007 and took the participants to Germany's leading financial city Frankfurt am Main.
The first stopover for the 36 trainees and sandwich-course students, almost 13% of the total number of employees at the Schmalz head office, and for human-resources manager Martin Helbling and training manager Rudolf Mönch was in Mainz. There, they took a tour through the production facilities of the sparkling-wine manufacturer, a company which was founded in 1890. This tour included the world's deepest sparkling-wine cellar and was rounded off by wine-tasting ceremony. After this sparkling refreshment, the trip continued to Frankfurt Airport, where the trainees and students experienced guided tour around the airport. During the following visit to the F.A.Z., the largest newspaper in Frankfurt, the Schmalz trainees visited the actual print shop and saw the latest edition of the newspaper being printed. The first day of the trip was then rounded off by a meal in the American restaurant "Louisiana" and a stroll through the city centre of Frankfurt. On Saturday, the Schmalz trainees took a guided tour through the city centre and a trip to the top of Frankfurt's most famous landmark, the Main Tower.
The Schmalz trainee outing, just like the Summer Party and the annual party for all Schmalz employees, is now a well-established tradition. These two parties are organised by the Schmalz trainees, and the annual trainee outing is a "thank you" from the company for their efforts. It also helps to promote a better team spirit and allows the trainees from the various departments to get to know each other better. Barbecue parties, strenuous sports events, LAN parties and many other things also contribute to the team spirit.
In the autumn of 2007, 18 new trainees in 14 different trades and sandwich courses will reinforce the Schmalz trainee team.
