New from Schmalz: Modular vacuum gripper system SSP

With a complete modular component system of vacuum components and assemblies for a quick and, in particular, highly individual design of vacuum gripping systems (gripper/vacuum spiders...), the vacuum specialist J. Schmalz GmbH , 72293 Glatten caused an uproar at the robot trade fair AUTOMATICA in Munich.

Although the innovative vacuum technicians from the Black Forest already offer an extensive product and service range of suction pads and gripper systems, the vacuum spiders SSP-... (SSP-FMC, equipped with several large-area grippers FMC, or SSP-SBX equipped with several SBX grippers...) will set a new benchmark with regard to the construction, configuration and design of gripping systems, which will bring the realisation of cost-effective grippers from the standard modular components to the foreground.

The modular component system consists of specially coordinated and compatible gripper elements, large-area gripper connections, sensor units, filters and valves as well as vacuum generators. The components and assemblies ensure a quick, cost-effective design. The powerful, perfectly coordinated components ensure minimal cycle times and high process safety. The intelligent valve technology guarantees secure gripping of various work pieces and goods with variable sizes and from undefined or defined positions. In addition, the automatic sealing of unused suction cells optimises and reduces energy consumption. Furthermore, alternating suction/blow-off functions allow quick and reliable separation and isolation of work pieces stuck together per adhesion or as a result of porosity.

Depending on the handling task, either standardised large-area gripper modules FMC or SBC grippers, individual suction pads, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic grippers, magnetic grippers or even needle grippers can be used individually or in combination with other grippers. The basic version consists of a complete gripper system of standardised components such as a variable movable flange module, longitudinal cross arm, vacuum distributor, flexible, spring-mounted suction elements and the optional vacuum generator. In the comfort version, a separation unit, valve unit, sensor unit and electrical terminal boxes are additionally installed, which reduce the integration costs for the machine manufacturer.

The vacuum spiders SSP... from the standard modular components are universal and flexible and can be used for the handling of work pieces with a wide range of sizes and weights from undefined or defined positions. The same applies to the handling of work pieces with cutouts and/or with different gripper levels and surfaces. The vacuum spiders SSP can be used for all imaginable palletising/depalletising tasks, including sheet materials made of wood, metal and plastic or washers, blanks, glass, cardboard boxes, solar panels. .
If desired, the vacuum spiders SSP... can be delivered in their entirety and ready for operation, connected to the unit on the robot flange, or also as modular system to the system integrators/customers/users.
