Messrs. Schmalz places great emphasis on the subject of safety and security in the sector of information technology.
One way of achieving the necessary transparency with respect to the safety and security properties of IT products is to have the so-called "IT scenarios" and data-processing systems inspected and evaluated by independent experts and in accordance with standardised rules. The resulting tested security is confirmed with a certificate.
Messrs. Schmalz recently subjected their entire IT structure to an inspection in accordance with the Guidelines of the BSI (Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik - Federal Office for Security in Information Technology) and have thus taken the first important step towards certification, namely that of publishing a declaration.
There were various reasons for this step. Firstly, the inspection of the data-processing systems includes a thorough check of the internal security. Secondly, precautionary measures are implemented (by executing a series of "what if" scenarios and, last but not least, clear operating procedures are defined. The most important result of these processes is improved protection against failure of the systems and enhanced security for connections to the company's customers and suppliers.
The need for a safe and secure Internet presence, error-free e-business activities, virus-free data, secure direct connections to subsidiary companies and banks, and also to customers and suppliers, are all good reasons for ensuring safety in information technology.
Messrs. Schmalz is the twelfth company in Germany, and the first in the administrative district of Freudenstadt, to publish a declaration and thus to be included in the list of tested companies at the BSI.
The objective of Schmalz is to achieve full certification of their IT, which is similar to the certification in accordance with DIN ISO 9001.
