Girl's Day - a day at J. Schmalz GmbH

J. Schmalz GmbH participate in the Girl's Day 2005

On 28 April 2005, J. Schmalz GmbH opened their doors and invited visitors to the Girl's Day 2005, which is held annually, on the fourth Thursday in April, all over Germany. This event offers schoolgirls in grades 5 to 10 the opportunity to learn more about scientific/technical apprenticeships and university courses which are generally regarded as "unusual for women", and to make contacts which could be important for their future careers.

J. Schmalz GmbH received a total of 16 applications from girls aged 11 to 13 years who are currently at the comprehensive school in Glatten. Their agenda included a company presentation, a guided tour through the company headquarters, a live test of the Schmalz products in the company's showroom, a tour of the renowned ecological path, the production of their own Schmalz key fobs and a final discussion with trainees at J. Schmalz GmbH.

The girls were provided with information about many different possible trades and professions in the areas of mechanical engineering, electronics, informatics, at all levels from a normal apprenticeship to a university course.

The Girl's Day was thoroughly enjoyed by all participants and organizers and J. Schmalz GmbH will repeat the event next year in order to show schoolgirls which "untypical" trades and professions are open to them.
