Since more and more children have difficulties understanding modern technology and it is becoming difficult to find technically qualified employees, the Chamber of Trade (IHK), the University of Pforzheim, die University of Cooperative Education in Horb and many other companies and schools have now begun to extend the regional programme "Fascination of technology" to cover kindergartens, in addition to normal schools. The aim of this is to arouse, recognise and promote technical talents and abilities in children and young persons.
As part of this programme, our training manager Rudolf Mönch and the trainees Sven Helbling and Dennis Blöchle visited the kindergarten in Glatten on 27 July 2006. With them they had vacuum lifting devices which can lift and move puzzle parts and building blocks and a flute which is controlled with compressed air. However, the highlight for the children was an experiment which demonstrated the effects of a vacuum with the aid of a "Mohrenkopf" (a Mohrenkopf is a small cake filled with beaten egg white and coated with in chocolate). Such a cake swells up when subjected to a vacuum and returns to its original size when the vacuum is released.
The children were fascinated and head of the kindergarten, Waltraud Walter, was confident that we had got the message across.
