Information about Valve Technology

Valve Technology

Interesting information about valve technology

General/Technical Information

Info

Selection of the correct valves for your application is dependent on various conditions which are defined, on the one hand, by the design prerequisites of the vaccum circuit and, on the other hand by the applications. The checklist below will help you to plan your system.

-Which fuctions are required?

  • You can, for example, select a 3/2-way or 2/2-way valve.

-Which volume flow rate is to be controlled?

  • This determines the sizes and nominal diameters of the valves.

-What requirements exist with respect to weight and size of the valves and the operating cycle times?

  • Further notes on this subject can be found in the design data and/or technical data fot the various valves.

-Which safety requirements exist?

  • See the notes in the product description.

-Which energy is available?

  • See the notes in the design data and/or technical data for the various valves.

-Does the workpieces need to be blown off the suction pad?

Check Valves

Technical information

Check valves

Minimum dimensions, reliability, safty and intelligence are the attributes of the check valves from SCHMALZ, which play an important role in solutions to vacuum handling tasks. The existing SV range has been developed further to form the new SVK range with a total of five sizes with different power ratings. Furthermore, the new SVK check valves are now shorter, reducing the space needed in the application machines, permitting solutions which were previously impossible, reducing costs and extending the application range of the valves.

Check valves offer decisive advantages for certain handling problems. If, for example, workpieces of differing sizes are to be picked up, it is no longer to adjust or re-position the suction pad, since the check valves switch off the flow of air through any suction pads which are not in contact with the workpiece. This reduces the programming and setting costs and makes operation more economical. In addition, the check valves acts as a basic safety element in the vacuum circuit. If there is a leak, or if a suction pad is pulled away from the workpiece, the valve closes immediately. A built-in filter ensures that no dirt can enter the vacuum circuit via the suction pad.

When the workpiece is blown off, an extremely wide channel in the new check valve opens, ensuring precise positioning of the workpiece. With the aid of these "intelligent" chack valves, many handling tasks can be solved with minimum costs.

How the check valve functions

How the check valve functions:

The suction pad is pressed against a non-porous surface: the ball in the valve remains in the open position and permits a vacuum to be established.

The workpiece does not cover the suction pad or pulls away from the pad during handling: the flow of air presses the ball against its seat, maintaining the vacuum in the rest of the system.

The workpiece is blown off: the ball is pushed out of its seat, opening a relatively large cross-section and allowing a high volume flow rate. The workpiece is thus released reliably and very quickly.
