Special suction pad with sensing valve for handling wooden parts

A combination of a suction pad SHF(N) and a new sensing valve extends the possible range of applications and increases the process safety when handling parts

The proven flat suction pads of the SHFN series, designed for universal use in all areas of woodworking, are characterised by many specific features. The have, for example, a soft sealing lip with an additional inner edge and the bottom of the suction pads has a special structure.

Optionally available are also a dirt filter for use in very dirty surroundings (wood chips and dust) and a foam-rubber insert which ensures that the suction pad SHFN adapts itself optimally to uneven or rough workpiece surfaces. These special suction pads grip wooden workpieces securely and permit dynamic handling with short cycle times.

The range of vacuum components has now been extended with the addition of a sensing valve fro the SHF(N) suction pads and provides even more process safety when handling differing kinds of wooden workpieces. The combination of the SHF suction pad with the new sensing valve is intended for use wherever workpieces with rough surfaces, or with holes and apertures on their surfaces, need to be handled. The sensing valve ensures that the vacuum line to the suction pad is opened only if the suction pad is actually in contact with the surface of the workpiece.

This means that workpieces can always be handled safely and reliably, even if some of the suction pads of the gripper system are not touching the workpiece surface. It also permits a considerable reduction in the complexity of the controller of the vacuum

system.

The new sensing valves are very robust and permit a high volume flow of up to 78.5 litres per minute, making the reliable handling of even porous objects possible. The special triangular shape of spring-loaded sensing plunger ensures reliable operation even if it pressed laterally against the workpiece or if the workpiece surface is uneven. The tip of the plunger is rounded to prevent damage to even sensitive surfaces.

The internal geometry of the sensing valve is designed to cope with large amounts of dust or chips without negative effects on the process safety. The sensing valves are fully compatible with all existing SHF suction pads and systems, which means that they can be retrofitted without problems.
