Vacuum handling systems

GENERAL QUESTIONS

I want to swivel a workpiece – how can I do this?
The Jumbo and the VacuMaster products offer three possibilities for swivelling the load.
1. The manual swivelling system – recommended for maximum loads of up to 100kg with the Jumbo and 200 kg with the VacuMaster.
2. The pneumatic swivelling system – compressed air must be provided locally.
3. The electric swivelling system is recommended mainly for use with the VacuMaster (mounted on a chain hoist), since power for the pump is already available.

JUMBO

What is the maximum lifting height of a Jumbo vacuum tube lifter?
The maximum lifting height is about 3 m. For such heights, however, suitable operating facilities (such as an operator stand or ladder) should be provided.

Can I use a Jumbo inside a truck?
No. The lifting height of a tube lifter is normally 2/3 of the total length of the lifting tube. In other words, the tube can contract by only 70% and it is thus impossible to lift loads to the ceiling. A Jumbo is thus not suitable for loading trucks.

How can I turn loads suspended from a Jumbo vacuum tube lifter?
1. You can turn the complete vacuum tube lifter endlessly around its vertical axis by holding the handle and walking around the lifter.
2. Alternatively, you can hold the handle in any desired position and turn the load separately. In this manner, the operator can, for example, stack cardboard crossways and longways without moving from his position.

Can I still rotate the load endlessly when a compressed-air feed hose is fitted
Yes!

What is the maximum permissible length of the feed hose for a Jumbo vacuum tube lifter?
We recommend that you do not exceed a maximum length of 50 metres. If a longer feed hose is needed, correct operation must be tested before the lifter is put into service.

Is the blower for the Jumbo also available for single-phase AC voltages?
No!

VACUMASTER

How can I determine the optimum length of the longitudinal and transverse beams and the number of suction pads for a VacuMaster?
Ask for the technical catalogue "VacuMaster". This contains selection tables for the ideal number of suction pads and the appropriate suction-pad systems, together with the matching longitudinal and transverse beams.

How can the vacuum for a VacuMaster be generated?
- Pneumatically (Venturi principle. A compressed-air supply with about 5 bar must be provided locally)
- Electrically (3-phase, 400 V supply voltage)
- Battery (24 VDC supply voltage)

CRANES

How can slewing column cranes be secured?
1. On a foundation – the baseplate of the column is secured with anchor bolts cast into the concrete foundation.
2. By securing the baseplate with plugs suitable for dynamic loads. Note that the floor must be at least 20 cm thick for this method.
3. By securing it with an intermediate plate and conical holes in the concrete floor. Schmalz does not drill these conical holes: they must be drilled by a concrete specialist!

Can I use a slewing column crane as a movable crane?
Yes, if you use a so-called baseplate (GP). You can then move the complete system with the aid of a fork-lift truck. Describe your specific application and we will gladly advise you.
