Nov/2007 :

European Solar Prize 2007 awarded to J. Schmalz GmbH

The award of the European Solar Prize 2007 in the category "Owners or operators of systems for utilisation of renewable energy" honours the company's great and successful efforts to become a "positive-energy company".
The prize, which was received by the managing directors Dr. Kurt Schmalz and Wolfgang Schmalz at a ceremony in Berlin on 29.11.2007, is regarded by the two brothers as a special confirmation of their strategic aim of sustainable business practices.

Jun/2007 :

Investment in the Glatten facility:

In 2007, with the construction of a new wood-chip heating system, Schmalz will increase the amount of regenerative energy it generates. With a rated power of 500 kW, the new system generates considerably more heat than its predecessor and will heat all of the buildings in Glatten via a local heating network. At the same time, it will reduce the CO2 emissions by about 378 tonnes per year.
In June, 227 new parking slots for employees were officially opened for use. New parking facilities had become necessary due to the continually increasing number of persons who work at the Glatten head office.



Nov/2006 :

Schmalz participate successfully in the competition Innovation Prize for Baden-Württemberg, the  "Dr.-Rudolf-Eberle-Preis 2006".

The innovative and intelligent vacuum generator "Schmalz X-Pump" receives a commendation of the jury.

Oct/2006 :

New from Schmalz: Aluminium Crane Systems. With its new aluminium crane system Schmalz is completing the range of material-flow solutions.



Apr/2006 :

Schmalz increases the worldwide engagement. In April 2006 two new subsidiaries have been founded in Finland and Canada. We are active now with the Oy Schmalz AB in Vantaa/Finland and with Schmalz Vacuum Technology Ltd. in Toronto/Canada.




Nov/2005 :

J. Schmalz GmbH wins the "German Prize for Business Ethics"

Schmalz convinced the specialist jury in particular by their systematic application of ethical business practices.

The company convincingly showed that economical success and responsibility for people and the environment are fully compatible with each other.

Market introduction of the new VacuMaster versions Basic and Comfort. These new lifting devices -the result of further development on the basis of the existing series - set new standards for functionality, ergonomics and safety.

Sep/2005 :

Schmalz increases the worldwide engagement.
In September 2005 three new subsidiaries have been founded:

Schmalz Sp.zo.o. in Warsaw/Poland, Schmalz Co. Ltd. in Seoul/Republic of Korea and a representative office in Moscow/Russia.




Nov/2004 :

In November 2004, Dr. Kurt Schmalz and Wolfgang Schmalz, received the prize "Ecological Manager 2004". With this prize  its initiators, the magazine CAPITAL and the environmental foundation WWF Deutschland, reward the excellent efforts of all employees and the management of J. Schmalz GmbH in the area of environmental protection in the company.

Jun/2004 :

In June 2004, Schmalz wins the BDI Environmental Prize and the Green Week Award of the ICEO.

Schmalz receives these two renowned awards for its efforts in overall protection of the environment.

Mar/2004 :

Our new French subsidiary Schmalz S.A.S start work.

 

Due to its excellent results in the competition "Germany's Best Employer", Schmalz qualifies for the contest "Great Place to Work Institute Europe". In this contest, with almost 1000 participants, Schmalz is classified as one of the 100 best companies in Europe!

Foundation of a representative office in China (Shanghai).

 

Market introduction of the SCHMALZ FX series! Schmalz presents the new large-area vacuum gripper for use with handling devices and industrial robots - a new definition of flexibility in handling applications.



2002 :

Foundation of the subsidiaries Schmalz S.A. in Spain and Schmalz K.K. in Japan.

Move to the new building containing offices and production area of about 7600 m².

Start of the new e-Business plattform "Schmalz VacuWorld".



2001 :

The Italian subsidiary Schmalz S.r.l. begins operations.


Introduction of a new, customer-oriented process organisation.




2000 :

As recognition for its exemplary performance in the area of environmental protection, the Schmalz company is awarded the Environmental Prize for companies in the industrial sector by the State of Baden-Württemberg.

In the same years, the Dutch subsidiary Schmalz B.V. in Apeldoorn and the Japanese representative J. Schmalz GmbH East- & South-East Asia Representative Office in Yokohama are founded.



1999 :

J. Schmalz GmbH is awarded an Environmental Certificate of the Ministry for the Environment and Traffic of the State of Baden-Württemberg.

The sales companies Schmalz, Inc. in the USA and Schmalz Pvt. Ltd. in India are founded.




1998 :

The first foreign sales company is founded: Schmalz GmbH in Switzerland.




1997 :

Schmalz is certified in accordance with DIN ISO 14001 and validated in accordance with the EU Eco-Audit regulations.

In the same year, Schmalz introduces the customer-oriented team organisation and sets up the internal education and training programme "Schmalz Academy".



1996 :

The new, modular vacuum tube lifter JUMBO is introduced, capable of lifting loads weighing 20 to 200 kg.




1994 :

Introduction of the modular and extremely versatile vacuum lifting system VACUMASTER, capable of lifting loads of up to 2000 kg.



1994 :

The company is certified in accordance with DIN-ISO 9001.

Extremely hard-wearing suction pads made of Vulkollan are introduced.



1993 :

The range of compact ejectors (vacuum generators acting on the Venturi principle) is introduced. The product range comprises more than 150 variants.




1991 :

Schmalz receives the Federal Prize of the Ministry of Economics for excellent innovative performance for the vacuum tube lifter system JUMBO.




1990 :

Dipl. Ing. Wolfgang Schmalz joins the company management.



1985 :

A wide range of suction pads and electrically and pneumatically powered vacuum generators were the start of the vacuum components, for which a very wide range of applications in industry and craftsmen's workshops was soon established.

The vacuum tube lifter is developed.




1984 :

Vacuum handling systems and vacuum components

When Dr. Kurt Schmalz took over the management of the company, he re-oriented it, specialising in vacuum handling technology and vacuum components.




1960 :

The modular paint-drying trolleys and many other transport trolleys were added to the production range and are today still part of the SCHMALZ products.




1948 :

Manufacture of vehicles and transport equipment

As electric shavers became more popular, Ing. Artur Schmalz, who had taken over the company management, had to look for and develop new products.

The invention of a support wheel for caravans and trailers provided the first impulses for further developments in the sector of light motor vehicles. It was followed by a trailer which could be tipped in three directions, trailers and post trolleys for the delivery of parcels, freight trolleys with a large floor area, etc.



1910 :

Manufacture of razor blades

In November 1910, Johannes Schmalz founded the "Johannes Schmalz Rasierklingenfabrik".

The "Glattis" razor blades were top-quality blades which quickly became well-known in Germany. Their quality was the basis for rapidly increasing sales, reaching 600,000 a month.
