Reducing setting-up times

Self-setting console system offers more flexibilityand simplifies conversion
With the new self-setting console system VC-RC LC, the vacuum specialists J. Schmalz GmbH in D-72293 Glatten offer the user a very flexible vacuum clamping system for securing workpieces on woodworking machines. This system, which is approved by many machine manufacturers and which has proved itself in many industrial applications, can be ordered as original equipment from many suppliers. The user thus receives a functional and reliable solution to his handling problems from a single source.
The specialists at SCHMALZ have now developed the original VC-RC system even further and can offer this system at a very attractive price. This, in turn, means that the system pays for itself quickly, especially in applications where large numbers of small batches are produced.
The new self-setting console system VC-RC LC consists of consoles and the appropriate suction blocks. The consoles can be positioned precisely by the NC program, with excellent repeatability. The same applies to the suction blocks, of which up to three can be traversed and positioned by the control program.
The tool spindle of the drilling/milling unit is used to position the consoles and the suction blocks mounted on them. This spindle can be connected to the end of the console and components can then be positioned with the aid of the X-axis drive on the machine.
Further suction blocks with hose connections can be placed directly on the consoles, where additional outlets are available to provide them with vacuum.
The length of the consoles depends on the type of machine on which they are mounted. The consoles are equipped with a dual-circuit vacuum system and can accept various suction blocks. AT the moment, Schmalz offers four types of suction blocks with the dimensions 120 x 120, 120 x 50, 125 x 75 and 130 x 30 mm. Suction blocks with heights of 50 or 100 mm can be used, depending on the user's requirements and the dimensions of the woodworking machine. It is thus possible to implement very individual clamping systems which are still suitable for universal use.
The automatic positioning of the various suction blocks ensures quick and efficient setting up or conversion of the expensive CNC machining centres. The downtimes are considerably reduced and the availability of the machines is increased. If necessary, the consoles can also be traversed manually. This feature is particularly interesting on machines such as dual-position machining centres, since it permits one position to be converted while the other position is still machining parts.
