With the development of a PIN-code interlock to prevent unauthorised modification of vacuum parameters in the digital vacuum switches of the type VS-V-D…, the vacuum specialist J. Schmalz GmbH, 72239 Glatten, reacts to a suggestion by customers. Both the manufacturers and users of machines and devices containing vacuum components and systems wanted to be able to save the selected vacuum parameters so that only authorised persons can modify them. There are several reasons for this, such as process reliability, safety aspects and warranty problems.
The new vacuum switches of the type VS-V-D-C/VS-W-D-C now use a three-digit PIN code to prevent unauthorised access to the stored vacuum parameters. Once the code has been set, pressing a button has no effect. However, the current vacuum value is still displayed, which means that an additional manometer is unnecessary. Just as in the preceding models, four different units of measurement can be selected and the switch offers individual functions such as two switching points and two hysteresis settings which can all be adjusted with the push buttons
The switching points can be set up as NO or NC contacts and the current states of the switches are indicated by two LEDs of different colours. Due to the use of 4-wire technology, the power supply and the signal output are completely separated, thus increasing process reliability. The very low weight of the vacuum switches means that they can be mounted directly on handling devices, gripper systems, robot arms and other units without affecting their freedom of movement or their dynamic operation.
And if a PIN code is lost or forgotten, Schmalz offers an unlocking service on demand.
